Why was the name "Red Power Divas" chosen?
The name “Red Power Divas” was selected by Sharon Chatman to represent the empowerment of women. Red Power Divas are passionate, strong, and fabulous!
Red: The color red was chosen because red grabs attention, stands out, and does not sink into the background. Red is the hottest of the warm colors… it revs us up and gets us going. In many cultures, red conveys passion, strength, power, happiness, good luck, and confidence.
Power: The word power was chosen because it conveys strength, authority, assertiveness, and control.
Divas: The word Diva was chosen because it was originally defined as a woman of rare outstanding talent, a fabulous woman. The definition was expanded to mean:
D = Determined: A woman who is determined not to be afraid to step out of her comfort zone and push her limits to do something different with confidence, attitude, and moxie.
I = Individual: A woman who understands that she is a unique individual and will not allow others define her.
V = Valuing: A woman who values all aspects of her life including family, friends, work, religion, and herself, and seeks balance in all of those things.
A = Accomplished: A woman who appreciates all the accomplishments has she achieved, knowing her accomplishments will only enhance who she will become in the future.
S = Supportive & Supported: A woman who understands the value of relationships and the power of giving support and accepting support when needed.
Thus, the name “Red Power Divas” was born.

Some of our members may choose to raise money for a charity, but it is not a requirement for the Red Power Divas.

How much training does this program involve?
We all have busy lives and full schedules. Many of us get caught up in work, children’s activities, and all the other responsibilities of life and we forget about ourselves. The Red Power Divas philosophy is to seek balance in all aspects of life. We provide you with a Training Schedule that outlines the recommended approach, but the time you commit to training is entirely your decision. You do what works for you, but know that this program is one that can easily fit into the busiest schedule. The goal is to walk or run four days each week, including a long run/walk on Saturday. The day after your long run/walk is always a rest day. During the week, each run/walk is typically two to five miles, with mileage goals increasing as we near the end of the training season. -
Do I have to be there every week or train with the Red Power Divas?
NO. But studies have shown that people who work out with others are more likely to achieve their long-term goals than those who try it alone. Red Power Divas will be there to support you every step of the way. Buddy Up! Whether you choose to team with one friend or more, the benefits are considerable:
Motivation and encouragement: Friends and teams can encourage and motivate you to do your best and they know they can count on you when they need extra support.
Commitment: Making excuses not to exercise is harder when someone else is relying on you.
Improvement: Having a friend as focused on your goals as you are provides an edge you can’t get alone.
Fun: Taking your workout seriously shouldn’t mean you don’t have fun. Take the time to talk and laugh with your friends.
